Pitch Up in your van. Chill Out in style!
Share
Hi (de-hi), I'm Sarah and I'm nearly 50! Probably by the time you read this, I will be. Coming of (this sort of age) does things to you. Mainly, recognising how short life is and therefore realising it is time to live life on purpose, right now!
The year Pitch Up and Chill was born
So this year, after 49 years of living my life the way I thought I should, I turned my thoughts to things that I actually enjoy, that light me up, that I want to invest my time and energy into. And so "Pitch Up and Chill" was born.
This nomadic journey really started back in 1999, the year my (then boyfriend, now) husband and I took a year out to backpack around the world. I was never really happy doing things the way everyone else did, so when we landed in Cairns and the majority of backpackers were buying their bus and hostel tickets, the boyf and I were eyeing up campervans. I just loved the idea of the freedom to roam to a less well-beaten track, away from the crowds, pulling up in a sea-side layby with an incredible view, rolling back the door and cooking up a tasty meal (inevitably washed down with a box of Stanley wine). Even better if, as happened a couple of times in New Zealand, we could buy some fresh seafood from a neighbouring van, plus a kilo of avocados from a nearby farm (love the avos).
It wasn't until 2019 though that we felt the draw of a VW campervan as a family run around. We made the decision whilst driving home after a wet and uncomfortable bank holiday weekend, camping (in a tent) in Norfolk. Family camping was always so much fun, but I hated sleeping in the tent and so did my back ... and my neck. I bloody loved that VW, but alas our family quickly outgrew it and so in February 2020, about a month before lockdown, we upgraded to a 6 berth Sunlight Fiat Ducato motorhome. 🙂🙂🙂
Back to my 49th year and the things that light me up and bring me joy... Pitching up (almost) anywhere in the motorhome with my family, cracking open an ice cold bottle of wine or beer, decking out under the quickly decorated awning, taking in the glorious view and then chilling until the sun goes to bed and the fairy lights twinkle.
With Pitch Up and Chill, I want to create a community of likeminded MoHo, camper and caravan owners where we can share our love of the best campsites, festivals and stopovers, as well as all those camping add-ons that enhance your outdoor dining and entertaining experiences. I'll be selling some of these in the online store, but I also want to hear about, review and promote fantastic products from other camping brands, particularly if they are emerging, ethical and sustainable.
The Pitch Up and Chill brand is very much in its infancy, but there's no better time to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest or sign up to our newsletters on the homepage, where you'll be the first to hear about my latest trips, products and offers.
Happy camping! 🥂
